When making cold process soaps, I always end with spraying 9..

When making cold process soaps, I always end with spraying 99.9% isopropyl alcohol on top of my batches before they sit for the night and I cut into them. Why?? All because of soda ash, which is just an ashy film that can occur over the tops of your soaps. ๐Ÿ™„ It is caused by the unsaponified lye in the soap reacting to the natural carbon dioxide in the air. It is strictly cosmetic, doesnโ€™t affect your soap or the properties of the soap at all, but it certainly is annoying!๐Ÿ˜ฉ Spraying the alcohol on top of the soap creates a barrier between the unsaponified lye and the air. ๐Ÿ˜Œ I found that sometimes the alcohol helps, and sometimes it doesnโ€™t help as much depending on the recipe. However I do choose to always spray it just in case!๐Ÿ™
